Pampered pets pig out in Pompano Beach
By Hyperflite Staff
For just a moment let’s take a trip to dreamland. Imagine that you and your beloved canine companion have just competed in the Hyperflite Skyhoundz Southeast Regional Championship held in Florida. It was a tough competition but you managed to score an invitation to the Hyperflite Skyhoundz World Championship. Let the party begin!
Since we’re in dreamland, let’s also imagine that we are going to celebrate by taking our four-legged wonder to the best restaurant in town. Now wait a minute, we’re not in Italy, so maybe we should modify our dream. As usual, poor Rover will have to cool his paws in the hotel room while we celebrate sans canine…right? Wrong!
Thanks to a progressive and decidedly canine-friendly piece of legislation just signed into law in Florida, pampered pets in Pompano Beach and every other city in Florida may soon experience what their European brethren have enjoyed for decades – a good meal, a beverage and quality conversation with friends at their favorite corner restaurant.
With the proverbial stroke of a pen, Florida Governor Jeb Bush signed into law the “Doggie Dining Bill.”
The new law establishes a three-year trial program that leaves, to each Florida county, the decision as to whether to permit pets in outdoor areas of restaurants. If a county permits pet dining, then restaurants within the county can decide whether to participate in the pilot program and invite pets to eat at their establishments.
The new law, according to Governor Bush, permits pet owners and their canines to “have a brewski together, have a hot dog together or whatever they want outdoors.”
Well, we’re not sure that you need to let Rover imbibe, but maybe a Scooby snack would be nice. After all, we don’t want anyone getting a “DDUI” (Driver and Dog Under the Influence).
Although not everyone in Florida is pleased with the new law, pet owners and their four-legged food critics are delighted. Greg Perry, co-founder of Hyperflite, gave the new law Hyperflite’s “four paws” rating – observing that “it’s good for pets and it’s good for people. Other states will follow suit when they see the positive impact this can have on the bottom lines of the businesses that operate within their states,” Perry predicted.
Perhaps the administrative details and red-tape associated with the new legislation will be resolved by next year…just in time for the Skyhoundz Southeast Regional. In the meantime, we say sweet dreams and bone appetit!
